Have you read Mother Hunger by Kelly McDaniel?

I often compare and contrast, neurodivergence and complex trauma to try and understand my history, for my complex trauma healing ❤️‍🩹

No, but I will definitely check it out! Thank you for the recommendation. ❤️

What resonated with you the most in the book? How has it helped you understand your own journey? I’m always curious about books that offer new perspectives, especially when it comes to complex trauma and neurodivergence.

I learn about trauma and intergenerational trauma to try and make sense of myself and my life.

My mum and I were separated at birth as she nearly died. I trained as a breastfeeding counsellor and learn about the importance of protecting the mother/ baby dyad and the impact on the nervous system when there’s separation at this crucial bonding time.

My mum was just a child at 18 when I was conceived so we raised each other.

Others wondered/ I wondered why there was tension in our relationship even though we loved each other and relished time together.

‘Mother hunger’ is a term that so beautifully explains this tension and I’m grateful for this book. I’m realising more recently that in our case I think this mother hunger goes back further. My grandmother was an orphan, raised by nuns with no mother figure in her life at all. The egg that created me would have been carried in her ovaries when she was a baby. This mother hunger/ intergenerational trauma passes through in this way. I’m now healing this and in the process I feel I’m also healing my mother’s and my grandmother’s trauma as well as my own and my daughter’s trauma ❤️‍🩹

I’ve written a short post about it. I’ll find and share xx
